How I Work

I create designs that I want to do as well as taking custom design ideas and working with you to create a design that you are happy with. I also create designs with my clients in collaborative ways through the Scribe process. If you want a custom design it is best to send a description of what you’d like, where on the body you would like it, how big you would like it to be, some references of my work that you are drawn to and any other references of things that explain your idea to me.

I am happy for you to send references of other artists work as reference, I will not copy another artist’s work.

As artists we spend a lot of time and energy honing our own personal styles and creating unique work for each client. It is important to me to work in integrity and to respect the work of other artists as well as create from my own impulses.

I do sell tattoo tickets and I will tattoo other artist’s work if you have paid them for a tattoo ticket and it suits my technique. A tattoo ticket is when you pay an artist, usually one that’s too far for you to travel to, for a design and then you pay another artist to tattoo that design. I will not however copy any image that you have found and don’t have permission to use.

Your design will be ready at least 2 days before your appointment, when it is done I will send it to you, any tweaks and changes will then be done together in the studio during your appointment. We will make sure you are totally happy with the design before we tattoo. The Scribe design process is different and will be tailored to each client.

I often work with people who are either having their first tattoo or are nervous or worried because of previously difficult tattoo experiences. I am happy to have a consultation call to answer any questions or worries you may have. I offer quiet sessions for those who prefer not to communicate or feel nervous about the social element of sitting with a stranger for a prolonged period. I am happy to discuss how we could make adjustments and adapt to any requests of needs that a client may have once discussed ahead of time.

I do hold group tattoo ceremonies and journeys which I release dates for months ahead. These usually include elements of sound and nature immersion as well as the tattooing itself. If you would like to book for a specific group, for example for a birthday gathering, pre wedding gathering or any other groups, I am happy to work with groups of up to 6 people to create tailored tattoo experiences. Feel free to get in touch to discuss this.

FAQ’S

  • Hand poke tattoos do hurt. Pain and pain tolerance is a very personal thing and varies from human to human. In general most people report that hand poked tattoos hurt less than machine tattoos. It is worth knowing that although they can be less painful they do take longer per tattoo size than a machine tattoo of the same size would.

  • Yes, hand poked tattoos are just as permanent as machine tattoos.

  • Yes, I do tattoo hands and fingers. There are a few things that you should know before deciding to get finger tattoos. The skin on the fingers is very different to most other skin and it holds the ink differently, it will both heal and age differently because of the type of skin and how much we use our hands. For this same reason a finger tattoo is likely to heal patchy the first time around and will almost certainly need a second appointment to touch it up. Because of this and the difficulty of tattooing the type of skin, I charge more for hands than any other area (this charge includes a follow up appointment to touch up). I share this information not to dissuade you but because I like people to have full knowledge of what they’re getting into. If you’ve read all of this and still think you want to go for it, let’s do it!

It’s also good to consider what kind of effect it may have for you before marking the most publicly visible parts of your body (hands, neck, face). Tattoos are much more popular these days and it is quite normal to see tattoos around but unfortunately it can still be a reason that someone wouldn’t hire you or may treat you differently in some contexts, so please consider this when deciding on your tattoo placement. If you have any other questions about hand or finger tattoos feel free to get in touch.
